Is it possible that IBD is just a plot to shut Ranger Amy up? We start by taking away her fonts, then her punctuation....

I am absolutely *terrible* when it comes to over using exclamation points. It comes from my rather enthusiastic personality--I talk in exclamation points, so it comes naturally to write with them! My boss is always telling me to watch my usage because "If everything is exciting, then nothing stands out." It's a good point and advice, but easier said than done!

Great article!

I can out-date you there, Jeff - when I first learned to type, do make an exclamation point I had to type a single quote, then backspace and add a period.
I do have to watch myself with those nasty little exclamation points, as I can easily go overboard. But I guess I easily go overboard on a lot of things, so who cares?!?!?!!!

Gr8t post!!!!!

Like swearing, you tend to pick up the exclamation point habit when you hang out with the wrong crowd. I use them on the interwebs and email, but almost never in something that will be printed! An exclamation point in a printed piece feels too much like dotting 'i's with tiny hearts or writing in pink glitter ink! Way too twee to be taken seriously once you've left elementary school!

(Is there some sort of spreadsheet or tracker program that will tell me when it's safe to use another one? Keeping track seems like a lot of work!!!!)
